About The Fergus George FitzGerald Family of Tasmania
Please sign in to see more.
Michael and Stephen FitzGerald set up this site in 2007 in memory of their father, Fergus George FitzGerald (1899-1981).

On the paternal side the Families are FitzGerald and Fergusson; on the maternal Webster and Stanfield.

Between them they form an illustrious lineage. Many of the forebears were distinguished and distinctive personalities, they were political and social leaders, the families were philanthropic and charitable. Their contributions to 19th century and first half 20th century Tasmania were remarkable and significant. They were indeed 'leaders of society'. The first generations were also affluent and used this affluence not only for personal advancement but for the betterment of their respective societies. However in connection to this, it is interesting to note the old Yorkshire aphorism originally applied to the Stanfields " From clogs to clogs in three generations".
